Class
of 2012 GFI Program
Good news!
2012 is the fifth year that students from Green Forest will enter
the OBS vocational educational program!
We expect
that they will follow the good efforts of their friends in the previous
years,
and will
successfully finish. Our students have expressed their interest
in furthering their education.
All
students who participate in our program agree to:
1. Attend classes; keep in good standing with the school
2. Stay out of trouble and use sponsors' money wisely.
3. Remain in touch with our GFI contact, Natasha, and write to sponsors.
(Our students must all purchase cell phones when they begin school,
to stay in contact with Natasha.)
Our sponsors have all been devoted and dependable, sincerely caring
for their
young students. Our internat director asks me to tell each new sponsor:
"You are now the most important person in your student's life."
With a sponsor's support after leaving the care of their orphanage,
they have time to learn job skills,
personal
responsibility, gain gradual independence and maturity they could
not develop while in total care.
While
working in school with friends from their "Green Forest family"
they form strong friendships,
helping
each other and talking over their experiences. When they return
to Natasha at the internat,
they receive
support money and some mail and parcels.
She
can help them with problems and praise them for their successes,
letting us know about difficulties.
At the
end of their programs, they will move away from each other, sometimes
far, and find work where they can.
Their
schools try to place them. By that time, they will have reached
about age 20, and will have much better chances in life.

2010
Program
Exciting news for our third year! We have commitments
from sponsors to support 10 teens from the group who are leaving
our Internat this May. Past success in the program has
encouraged all our sponsors: those who sponsored the first class
2008 and begin again, as well as our new sponsors.
This will be an exciting year for these teens as they begin the
2 years learning a trade.

Program
Fully
Sponsored!
CHEERS
for all our supporting friends and dedicated sponsors!
We
know it is a very hard time for everyone, and be assured that present
economic conditions in Ukraine are WAY harder. For a Ukrainian orphan,
graduating and aging out of an internat (orphanage/boarding school)
with a very weak 9th grade education, prospects range are dismal
and may result in early death. Their only chance is to go to vocational
educational training for 2 years and learn a skill. After the very
successful pilot project of sponsorship of 2008 grads, we now have
10 new hopeful grads who trust us to help them.

2008
Program
Fully
Sponsored!
We are introducing to you 12
teens from Green Forest Internat, a boarding school/orphanage
with 160-170 children ages 7 through 17, located few miles outside
Kharkiv. The teens here graduate and age out of the Internat at
the end of May with only a 9th grade education. It really isnt
that, when compared to the 9th grade levels that youre familiar
with.
These
kids must learn to support themselves and survive. If
they leave the institution without any help, the chances are frighteningly
high that they will succumb to hunger, desperation, criminal activity,
drugs, unemployment, homelessness, violence, trafficking and prostitution,
suicide or early death.
