Completed Projects - Wheelchairs for Poltava Children

Funding Goal: $2,700
Raised: $2,700

Hope Haven (HopeHaven.org) International Ministries provides for the "development of opportunities for improving the economic and social welfare and independence of people with disabilities within countries and cultures throughout the world.". In 2007 their outreach will be touching the lives of disabled children in the Poltava region of Ukraine.

Hope Haven is generously supplying 13 brand new custom child-sized wheelchairs for the rehabilitation home in Poltava. According to the caregivers, this is the greatest need in the home as it enables them to move the children around to their various therapy sessions without enduring heavy lifting and moving. The chairs will arrive with the necessary equipment to accommodate the growth of the children over the years as they age.

OBS volunteer Joan Stout, who has championed this cause since the beginning and made the necessary arrangements for the chairs, including materials purchase and shipment expenses, and will be visiting Ukraine at the beginning of 2008 to deliver the chairs to the children in person. Taking full advantage of the shipping possibilities, Joan gathered new clothes and other needed items for the children, and is filling every available space in the wheelchair boxes.

2007 October: Fully funded & shipment in the works
2007 July: Project kick-off
