Funded
and COMPLETE
From
haircuts to hammers, the staff at GFI is constantly trying to prepare

Playground
Pavilions for Baby Orphanages
Goal:
$1,600
The baby orphanages use playground pavilions such as the one in
the picture to take the younger children outdoors for fresh air
and sunshine. Caregivers can spend one-on-one time with individual
children, confident that the remainder of the group does not wander
away and are safe. It is also a good place for the children to
play when it is too hot for the children to play in direct sunlight.
The
existing pavilions are made of wood, very old, and too dangerous
for the children to enter any more.

Green
Forest Internat Vocational Education
Class of 2008
Fully
Sponsored!
We are introducing to you 12
teens from Green Forest Internat, a boarding school/orphanage
with 160-170 children ages 7 through 17, located few miles outside
Kharkiv. The teens here graduate and age out of the Internat at
the end of May with only a 9th grade education. It really isnt
that, when compared to the 9th grade levels that youre familiar
with.
These
kids must learn to support themselves and survive. If
they leave the institution without any help, the chances are frighteningly
high that they will succumb to hunger, desperation, criminal activity,
drugs, unemployment, homelessness, violence, trafficking and prostitution,
suicide or early death.

Green
Forest Internat Vocational Education
Class of 2009
Fully
Sponsored!
CHEERS
for all our supporting friends and dedicated sponsors!
We
know it is a very hard time for everyone, and be assured that present
economic conditions in Ukraine are WAY harder. For a Ukrainian orphan,
graduating and aging out of an internat (orphanage/boarding school)
with a very weak 9th grade education, prospects range are dismal
and may result in early death. Their only chance is to go to vocational
educational training for 2 years and learn a skill. After the very
successful pilot project of sponsorship of 2008 grads, we now have
10 new hopeful grads who trust us to help them.

Sports
Equipment for Green Forest Internat
Funded
and COMPLETE
The Green Forest Internat, in Kharkiv, receives very little external
help. It is now home to about 160 children, aged between 7 &
16. Some of the kids have families that cannot look after them but
visit them occasionally. Most of them are orphans or their parents
have lost custody. Even though they are allowed to have some things
of their own, most only have what is given to them at the orphanage.
Clothes, shoes and toys are shared and passed on.

Nadvirna
Baby House Library and Quilts
Funded
and COMPLETE
The
children of Nadvirna Baby House will now be able to have a library
at their home. This initiative was possible thanks to everyone in
Parkland, Manitoba, Canada. The volunteer group has purchased &
sent over 50 Ukrainian childrens books to the orphanage. The
books range from learning the Ukrainian Alphabet, basic math, Atlases
to Nursery Rhyme books. Books allow children to dream and explore.
The first five years of a childs life are extremely important
and literacy is necessary. What a way to show our Ukrainian babies
how much we love them!

Baby House Carpeting
Funded
and COMPLETE
Nadvirna Baby House is an orphanage that seems somewhat forgotten
in a small village near the Carpathian Mountains. Day to day life
is hard at this orphanage and it has just become unlivable because
of the recent, widespread flooding in Western Ukraine. New
carpeting has been installed from funds raised by a group in the
Parkland region of Manitoba, Canada.

Shoes
Project
Over
$3,000.00 Raised
Funded and COMPLETE
There is a common need in virtually every orphanage: shoes for the
children. OBS purchases as much in-country as possible, but shoes
are the exception for several reasons. Buckner Shoes for Orphans
Souls is an amazing organization that provides brand new shoes for
needy children. An Orphan's Bright Star's application requesting
one pair of shoes for every child in our orphanages, and even for
some orphanages outside of our official scope, is being worked right
now. Shoes can be costly in Ukraine, so shipping free shoes over
to the homes makes very good sense in this situation.
